The forensic evidence was clear : using wave propagation, reflection, diffraction, and interference on the attached photo, plus free surface synthetic schlieren and optical techniques thereby the amplitude of waves generated from the duck in the foreground must be a Mallard, conversely the significantly different background surface height of the wave (using the inverse gradient operation on the displacement) conclusively indicate an American Wigeon.
