High, exact running tally. One flew out of the grass with a fecal sac, with another bird carrying food nearby. The first bird (who I presumed was a female), then landed on the runway a few feet from me, and then just kept walking back and forth, constantly calling with a "chip" note. A few times she flew a few feet into the grass as if to check on fledglings, but I didn't see or hear anything, and she'd fly back beside me. Literally just feet from where I'd sat down. Later I found a fledgling about 50 yards away. I'd estimate around 12-16 pairs nesting or attempting to nest here.
