Détails de l'observation
Apparently a one-day wonder, located by Steve earlier in the day. Drab, cold-colored godwit (ruling out Marbled). I studied it for half an hour through my scope from 80m away as the light faded, with several nice scope views of its solid black and white tail, easily visible while preening (further ruling out much less likely Bar-tailed). After a lot of waiting, it did a stretching hop flight, showing extensive black on the leading portion of the underwings, thus ruling out (much less likely) Black-tailed and confirming Hudwit. The bird was present all evening on what I call “the last island,” meaning the last vegetated island heading south/downstream, which now has a small mudflat extending from from the vegetation. See phone scope pics and stills from video.
