Subtitle: Brown Tree or Whistling Frog. Recorded with Grant Foster, NZ National Film Unit, White Heron Trip. Mr. Foster drove me around various areas outside the township of Franz Josef where he knew from previous trips that these frogs were located. We tried several spots where it was swampy (and most of Westland is), but could not get close enough for a good signal-noise ratio as the frogs would stop on hearing us. After several tries, and being very quiet as I moved away from his car, I was able to record these tapes. Several individuals laying submerged in water. Other Behaviors: Advertise, Chirps. Habitat: Swamp. Equipment Notes: Parabola 40" diameter 10" focal length.
