NOTES: LNS# 117962 represents the beginning portion of the cahow recordings made on the evening of 19November2003. The recordings began at 6pm. Portions of silence or distant birds were deleted during the editing of this cut. The first two segments of this cut were not deleted, despite low signal level and horrible signal:noise, because of the vocalizations. The first segment contains at least three small chips that were heard only rarely by me during the recording visit. These chips are very soft and never appeared to be in a formal sequence like the "puppy yelp" of segment two. Segment two contains a "Puppy Yelp" call that is heard less frequently than the cahow "moan" call. Recording began on the northwest side of Horn Rock Island in the "new" nesting colony (Segments 1-6). The microphone was then relocated to the bottom of the cliff on the northwest side (Segments 7-10). At this time the water is the most distinct. Finally, the microphone was moved toward the center of the island on the top (Segment 11). The later portion of this tape is better than the beginning, although the entire tape contains very loud wind and surf. Number of individuals=UU5+;. Other Behaviors: Court, Social Context: Colony. Habitat: Marine, Bay/Harbor, Island.
