Detalles de la observación
Followed up on an earlier report of a woodcock near the Chinatown Christmas market thinking it was very likely a window strike victim. Could not find the bird initially, but wandered around a bit and spotted it near the corner of 7th and F St NW (about here: 38.8967998, -77.0220462). It was alive, eyes open, and sitting on the pavement behind a wrought iron barrier slightly below street level. It surely had hit a window or experienced some other trauma. I called SPCA/animal control per City Wildlife’s instructions and when they arrived about 40 minutes later and attempted to catch the bird it flew a short distance and landed. When approached a second time it flew off south and we were not able to relocate it again. The protocol from SPCA is that if a bird is able to fly like that it is best not to take them in anyway. Fingers crossed for this bird.
