Second bout of singing by bird at Stop 3. After my second bout of tooting, the owl tooted for ~90 sec. When it paused, I gave a 15-sec bout of tooting, and the bird resumed as soon as I finished; it continued (with one notable break early in the recording) for over 2 minutes. This recording is of that second bout of tooting.

Detalles de la observación

Stop 2 (0.5) -- During the first 5 minutes, there were several sporadic and brief bouts of tooting to the north of me. Stop 3 (1.0) -- After my second bout of tooting, a NSWO began tooting to the NE of me. It paused at the 8-min mark (i.e., after ~90 sec of calling). I then gave my third bout (but shortened it to 15 sec). The owl resumed tooting immediately and persisted until ~30 sec past the 10-minute mark. Stop 5 (2.0) -- NSWO gave two wails close by to the N in the 9th minute. Stop 6 (2.5) -- A NSWO started tooting close by at the 9:40 mark of the 10-minute stop. Stop 8 (3.5) -- A NSWO gave three yelps just south of me between my 2nd and 3rd bouts; it then started tooting at the 9:50 mark of the 10-minute stop. Stop 9 (4.0) -- A NSWO began soft, sporadic tooting starting late in the 4th minute to the NE, and continued through the 5th minute. Although I cannot quantify, the owl seemed close calling softly, rather than more loudly but at a distance. Following my three bouts of tooting, an owl gave a yelp, just west of and very close to me. That call was followed immediately, by a resumption of the sporadic tooting to my NE, so two different birds confirmed. I then heard the bird to the west again, with a yelp and a chatter. After the 10-minute mark, the NE tooting bird apparently approached me and crossed the road, and resumed sporadic tooting just NW of me, during which I heard another yelp farther west. Stop 10 -- After my first bout of tooting, a NSWO gave two wails well to the NE of me. Given directions and distances to the owl detections among the various stops, I am quite confident about enumerating 8 different NSWO.
