Detalles de la observación
Very good bird, very happy to see it successfully after trying all afternoon without any luck. Endemic to the Chiapas/Guatemala area, same genus as Pileated Fly in Mexico. Tried multiple spots without any luck and then suddenly heard the bird quietly responding very low in thick brush in the pine oak woodland. Very shy and retiring, stayed mostly out of sight in the shrubs but we managed a few good looks. Medium sized flycatcher with spiky crest, very bold tear drop eye ring, brown-olive mantle, bold rufous belt across chest and wing bars/edgings. Slightly yellow on throat and belly. Doesn’t particularly seem tied to bamboo as Merlin suggests. Lifer. It responded a little to our playback with a quick “pi-urr” call
