Rough estimate from counting birds in one frame and scaling up by the total breadth of the flocks. Seen flying low over Lake Michigan at a distance in two large flocks. Pictures showed the distinct body and bill shape of a merganser, but not enough detail to differentiate between the three species likely to be migrating through at this time.
