***mega; one of several in the northeast today due to Tropical Storm Isaias. Dark-backed tern with white forehead, dark underside to primaries, dark tail. Photographed extensively. After scanning for over an hour hoping for this species, I picked this bird up at 7:19 right off of the point (~100 meters out), heading west. It drifted southwest into the wind and then turned and came DIRECTLY overhead, within 20 feet, and continued ENE towards the mouth of the canal. I lost it to sight quickly, and didn’t see again. This or another bird seen by Peter Trimble across Buzzards Bay shortly after.
