Detalles de la observación
Around dusk, we heard this slow, descending grunt-like call with deep notes at the end coming from the first impoundment around the same area (36.123911, -78.828631) where the Sora was reported recently. Wasn't a higher-pitched whinny like a Sora, though. Not a kek or kiddick call. Got a few recordings and this one is not amazing quality, but you can hear one call faintly from 0-5 seconds, and then a much louder/better one from 7-14 seconds. After much consultation and hope around possible King Rail, we landed on Virginia. The grunt notes have a squealing quality to them whereas the similar King sequence is slightly more staccato and crisper to me. Also more likely incidence of Virginia vs. more rare King. Thanks to Kent for the cleaner file.
