Detalles de la observación
First seen at first light in the distance along the west side of the river. The birds floated slowly down the river and drifted behind the island. So I made my way to a more southerly overlook, south of the sandbar, where I refound the bird and had decent views for about a minute before it took off with a flock of geese and left the area. Smaller size than nearby Canada Geese. Noticeably paler grayish back, coverts, and tertials. Pale edging to tertials and gr and med coverts. Darker head and upper neck. Short neck. Short, relatively stubby bill with a paler patch towards the tip. In flight, pale gray upper wing with darker flight feathers, and mostly white tail. Foot color visible in one of the flight shots. Photos. Wonderful to see this eastern Greenland specialty. It would be worth keeping an eye out in the area. The birds have gone off to feed somewhere.
