I heard some serious anger from a ball of small birds. Then, I saw the subject of their ire - a NSWO! Approx. 3-4 dozen small birds came to mob it, including many RCKI, GCKI, WIWR, HETH, BCCH, WTSP, etc., some getting right in the little owl's face. The NSWO was perched above the creek, about 2 m off the surface of the water in a cedar. Later, a BLJA showed up and I saw some very interesting behaviour. The BLJA got closer and closer, screaming in the little owl's face, and the NSWO moved around on its perch to face its antagonizor as the BLJA moved around and tried to get at it from every angle. The BLJA started bending and snapping off small branches of the cedar tree that were in the way of the NSWO, presumably to get at it more easily! The BLJA contacted the NSWO about 3-4 times, but the little owl held its own until the BLJA moved on. So fascinating!
