NOTES: (Breeding Status: Breeding.) A breeding colony of this petrel. They were nesting. The day was hot, very sunny, moderate wind and swell--(we landed OK!!) The animals were displaying over the peaks of the island earlier in the day and only came down to the nesting burrows at about 1400 hrs. During the display the male and female would fly together in "formation." The calling individual (in some calls) raised its head--during the first part of the call, with the bill open, then the ending (the long drawn-out "glog-glog-glog") was uttered with the bill closed and head level. The steep hillside was bare (goats and rabbits!!) except for the one Pandanus I was hidden behind! The erosion channels were very deep and birds disappeared from sound (& sight!) as they came in over very low. Note display calls were long (when with female). Chase calls were short. Assisted later in the afternoon by Dr. Stanley Temple! [Edited: SRP & DR]. Other Behaviors: Advertise, Mate, Social Context: Colony.
