NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 14. Bulk reel: 204. @ 5:35AM, when I arrived a bird gave a "wing-whirr" display. It took off from the west ridge and I saw the second part of display although it was still fairly dark. It then planed out of view behind the middle ridge. I thought the bird had planed to a landing on the west slope of the mid-ridge and thus pointed the reflector in that direction. However, the second display started from near where the first had begun, so either the bird circled back (which I didn't see because of obstructing mid-ridge), or else "flew" back later (which I doubt, as I was then out where I could have seen it), or this is a different bird. I believe the first alternative is most likely because on the third display the bird did circle back, planing, to land ~ 100m. from point of take-off and near to where it had started the second display. It had also started the display very shortly after take-off. First recorded was the second display. In this case the bird undoubtedly started the display very shortly after take-off, "flew" in northerly direction ~parellel with ridge, and planed to a landing near where it had started the 1st display (= Point A). I then pointed reflector to about where bird had landed and ~4' later recorded this display (car noise). Note: 15/V/68 - There was no activity in this area but starting at ~5:35AM there were a few displays way up the hill, the @ 5:40AM a bit of "bell calling." Note: 22/V/68 - At ~5:roAM, there was some very "quiet talk" heard and then a few minutes later 1 display, down close to position of Cut 14 [LNS 63691]. That was all noticed from ~5:15AM on to ~5:45AM then apparently more "quiet talk", some of which is heard faintly in b.g. of Cut 26 of T. leucomelas. Other Behaviors: Perform Visual Display.
