Media notes
A known Mexican Whip-poor-will recorded singing by Curtis A. Marantz at 20:46 on 2 June 2017 along Forest Road 2N93 above Green Canyon in the San Bernardino National Forest, San Bernardino County, California. The unseen bird was singing from trees about 15 meters above the ground in mixed White Fir/Black Oak forest on a moderately steep slope below Forest Road 2N93 about 200 meters beyond the creek crossing at Green Canyon and about eye-level yet in trees that were below us along the road at an estimated distance of 25-30 meters; it was clear, calm, probably in the mid-50s, and with a bright, ½ moon just west of south about 75° up in sky at 21:00.
Observation details
(singing; we began hearing the continuing bird at 8:38 pm, after which it sang almost constantly until 8:57 pm despite flying across the road and then changing locations every few minutes; we never did see this bird yet we were quite sure that only one bird was singing)
