NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 6. Bulk reel: ; Extra cut length: 3:04 a) 1900 hours to 1915 hours. First: one scream, natural then: screams and hoots by high-voiced bird in focus and hoots by lower-voiced bird in background (Note: probably same pair as Cut 5); result after playback of first natural scream. 7:15 PM to 7:50 PM. After more playback. One bird, apparently the low-voiced bird, gives a bother sound somewhat similar to the low-key hoot of Otus choliba under similar circumstances. These are in background and later we hear a hoot in background, presumably by same bird. Bird in focus gives hoots in higher-pitched voice; it then continues with screams, too. Quality: 1. Level: 0. Then "high hoots" continue with different background and best gain so far. A continuation of "high hoots" but recorded slightly off focus to minimize excessive emphasis of high-frequency elements by the parabola. 8:15 PM. Then in last part, high-voiced bird (female) has changed position and the lower-voiced bird (male) is again heard. Then the female adds some screams again. Note: This pair of birds was collected and it was found that bird with higher voice is the female and one with lower voice the male. Sound stimulation was (other): playback own scream.
