Media notes

Recording was made at nest site. Nest cavity was located in Ponderosa pine snag 80cm DBH, approx 4m up. One mike placed near cavity entrance, the second on a parabola pointed at cavity. Adults started feeding at 2110hr with feeding @1.5 -2.0 minute intervals. I stayed at nestsite all night. This tape contains cuts from approx 2110 through 2130. 2 other tapes also recorded, RRN 90-62 and 90-63. Most adult vocalizations occurred earlier in evenings. No "voiceover" on these tapes. "Wow calls"(ML Notes: It seems that the vocalizations are the begging calls of the nestlings. The BNA describes nestling calls as simple 'peeps' progressing into 'snores' but I do not know if what we are hearing here is either of these calls. Calls from adults are also heard but I don't know what they woould be described as CZ 22/12/03). Other Behaviors: Establish Parent Young Contact, Beg, Care For Young, Social Context: Family. Habitat: Montane Grassland.
