Purpose of sound: singing in defense of nesting territory; Behavior accompanying vocalization: running around on ground and calling from flight; When not vocalizing, birds were feeding; Recordist's Note: "Two females were attracted to this playback (Pre-copulatory call) and proceeded to display and chase. Both birds showed no evidence of having a male around. Possibly both males were on nests or neither of these two females had attracted a male. These tapes contain what I call threat calls.". Sound stimulation was (other): playback precopulating call. Habitat: Tundra, Rocky.
