Media notes
The bird highlighted here was one of five or six birds that were singing in a lek within terra firme forest that seemed to have a relatively low canopy about 2 km. out the spur road. This particular bird was unseen when I recorded the first part of this cut but apparently perched 25-30 meters away, 12-15 meters up. I did see this bird at the beginning of the second part of the recording. It was approximately where I have thought it was, about 20-25 meters away and about 12 meters up on a diagonal branch, but it flew during the middle of the second part of the recording, apparently coming closer and possibly a little bit lower (probably about 20 meters away and 5 meters up at the end of the recording). When the birds sang it pulled the wings back when they gave the introductory notes and pushed ahead forward and opened the bill when it gave the loud “wheeou” part of the song. Quite breezy at times, partly cloudy, 81° F. Other Behaviors: Lek. Equipment Notes: Sennheiser powered using phantom power and with filter in flat position and attenuator off for all recordings. Nagra input set at 2 mV / Pa and low-pass filter in flat position unless noted otherwise.
