Media notes

This is a recording of the parent of young that had fledged the previous day. The series of clicks at the beginning of the recording are bill snaps. The parent was being protective of its young and apparently trying to draw attention away from them. This recording is from 9:12 a.m. along our driveway, just beyond the end of the sidewalk. Background species include Eastern Towhee and Kentucky Warbler.

Observation details

The family group that recently fledged from the house nest was hanging around the driveway this morning, and one of the adults used the dive bomb and bill snap routine on Eric when he came back from doing morning chicken chores. When I walked by a bit later, I also experienced the bill snap/alarm call combo (this time with finger on the record button), though the parent didn't fly as close to me as on the previous day. I also saw at least one phoebe near the goat barn (where a nest failed recently), and I think it entered the barn, so perhaps they are trying again.
