Media notes
Original recording only amplified for eBird protocol. The owl not in the nesting cavity sang once or twice and then the owl in the nesting cavity came out quickly. Immediately after coming out of the nesting cavity, one began calling, presumably the one that had been in the nesting cavity. I presumed the female was the one calling, but I am not certain. A running stream is in the background.
Observation details
Saw at its hole close to dark. One started singing in the distance and after a couple of rounds, the one in the hole poked its head out again and flew. Called for a few seconds and flew off. We heard and saw the brief flash of wings in-between calling. Other one stopped singing. Tried to record. Noise reduction of the stream in the recording revealed one still singing after the owl left the cavity and during the calling.
