Media notes
Weather: Sun w/scattered clouds, light to moderate wind. Habitat: Jackpine with grasses/sedges. The area had been hit in recent years by heavy jackpine budworm infestation and so there were many sections of clearcut land alternating with jackpine/grassland. I have found Connecticut Warblers in this area in the remaining jackpines on the western side of Ross Rd. north of County Road A in Douglas County, WI, almost due East of Solon Springs. This Connecticut Warbler perched about 2 feet off the ground in a shrub in clear sight. I recorded from about 3 meters away. It was aware of my presence but didn't act particularly agitated. After the third call note, it disappeared down into the grass. I thought that perhaps I could find a nest in there or that it would pop up again at another nearby location but I continued to record (as the wind picked up even more) for another 6 minutes or so and never saw it again. ML: 150 Hz high-pass filter applied to recording in soundBlade.
