Media notes
probably not identifiable, but shows dowitcher shape
Observation details
**rare; second mainland record for Colombia (a few records from San Andrés), possibly, following La Guajira record in eBird from December 2016. Dowitcher sp. first spotted by Marshall and later heard calling in response to playback since habitat suggested Long-billed may be involved. Gave multiple short singled 'peek' notes, never varying them much, and quite clearly responding to playback. It took a bit of time to be certain that the dowitcher was calling and not a Black-necked Stilt, since they can give a similar note and were in the area as well. Eventually, the bird was seen calling and heard calling after landing from short fights, so it was clearly the dowitcher vocalizing. The recordings by Marshall and Andrés should be diagnostic. For what it is worth, in views in half light the bill appeared long on this bird as well, perhaps 1.5x head length. Single short 'peeek' note, instead of double note of Short-billed. New colombia species for all present [preceding notes by MJI] [independent notes by Nick Bayly] Recorded. Single short piup note, instead of double note of short billed. Gave repeated calls and responded to playback. Observed in half light, bill 3 to 4 times longer than head.
