Observation details
Interesting red tail. Gave the impression of a young possible Krider's. Light head with brown streaking on the crown and nape. Although it has a clear eye indicating a young bird it had a fully red tail that was a lighter red than most others we usually see. The tail had no banding at all. Which I have seen on several Red-tailed Hawks around here lately. The photo shows that the tail appears to be slightly worn with light bands in the outer feathers. This was not evident in flight however. The back appeared to be the standard brown back with white splotches. Not what I would expect from a Krider's or a light Harlan's.
