Observation details
A male and female were seen. This male perched briefly on an oak branch, but unfortunately it was so interested in a nearby female Anna's Hummingbird that it never gave me a gorget view while I was photographing it. I did see the purple streaked gorget when I first saw the bird, but it kept its head turned the rest of the time. From this photo you can just make out a hint of the long streaks of the gorget on the right side of upper chest. You can also clearly see the buffy sides, short tail with white tips, and short wings that do not project beyond the end of the tail. A short time later I observed this or another male chasing a female up in the sky. She had a white neck, chest and belly, with buffy sides, and a short square tail. I could just barely make out the white outer tail feathers.
