Observation details
One immature perched on dead snag of south willow copse, then in flight, soaring to gain height. Scope views when perched; binocular views in flight. When perched, had its back to us, but preening so as to show its face. Overall dark brown body, with multiple narrow bands in its tail. Showed "Osprey" face pattern and extensive yellow on its cere and a strongly hooked bill as it preened. In flight typical Black-Hawk shape of very broad wings and very short tail. Clearly noted were buffy patches on the upper primaries as it turned, and dark terminal tail band.
