Observation details
As I was driving on Farmington Lakes Drive on way to the park four pelicans were flying, circling the lake. It was either a practice run for continuing their migration or possibly they were disturbed by equipment removing the asphalt path at the park. They settled down and swam for 25 minutes, then the pelicans took off flying in circles ever higher. After 6-7 minutes of circling higher, they were high enough aloft to soar and glide, and off they flew to the northwest.
