Observation details
Very unexpected at this time and location! Very early for BNST in SK, especially with such a late spring this year. Also far north for this species (although there are a few other local records). It looked very out of place surrounded by snow and ice. Seen wading in the shallows and flying around over a narrow patch of open water along the south shore of the River. Large shorebird, striking black and white pattern with black wings, shoulders, neck, white around eye and on cheek and front of face. Long bubble-gum pink legs extending far beyond the tail in flight. White on tail and lower back formed a distinctive wedge-shape in flight. Possibly arrived on strong south winds, although it was still quite cold. Poor record shot obtained.
