Going after a ground insect
Observation details
*Very rare. Female. Sky blue-gray bluebird with very long wing extension--almost reaching tail tip. Upper breast pale rusty (not nearly orange like female Eastern), with complete nearly symmetrical white eyering. First noted in shrubbery north of grassland, very loosely associating with robins. Followed around for awhile, during which it fed on ground insects (crickets?), perched on tops of scrub pines, and uttered a few vocalizations. Vocalizations decidedly higher pitched than Eastern Bluebird, often a doubled "cher-cher" as opposed to EABL's single "cheery". Photos attached, including pinned location in checklist comments
