Observation details
***MEGA*** Godwit with orange/rufous head an d neck. Barred flanks. Bill appeared straight. Black tail with white coverts. White strip on dark upperwing, underwing was clean white. I first came upon the bird when I was scanning Yellowlegs. I immediately knew it was a Godwit and initially IDéd as Hudsonian. I only had about 10 second view before it flew. I refound it about 5 minutes later much closer. The orangish head and neck had me second guess HUGO. I looked through Sibley App and compared all Godwits, BTGD looked like a good fit. I kept my eye on the bird until it flew. In flight, the mostly white underwings immediately distinguished it from HUGO. Solid black tail with white coverts eliminated BTGO. It landed a little closer, about 75-90 yards away, when it landed it streched it's wings straight up before tucking them in, giving me another great look. It made several short flights and I was able to confirm underwing and tail plumage about five times. I was joined by Sandra and Bonnie before the bird flew to the other side of the road. The lighting wasn't as good on the other side but we still had decent views. We were joined by Barb and Kyle before the bird flew far to the East and appeared to land closer to I295. I digiscoped a few pictures but cold wind and distance made for difficult conditions. Bird was in view for over an hour total.
