No, not the bird standing on the snowbank -- that's a Ruffed Grouse. The Spruce Grouse is on the ground in the lower left corner of the image. Not a great photo, but I wanted to get both grouse species in the same image. I'm not sure I've ever seen these so close together.
Observation details
Spotted along Whitefish Point Road, about 30 feet before the Harbor of Refuge as I was heading away from the point. My views were much better than that captured in this poor quality photo. I could see that the bird's tail was broadly tipped with buffy orange, especially prominent when the bird flew, which was just a few seconds after this photo was taken.
