Mandarin Duck resting with Wood Ducks on shore
Observation details
About 1/4 to 1/2 miles from the trailhead on Sawyer Camp Trail, Lower Crystal Springs Reservoir, we met Pat Boor who had spotted a Mandarin Duck within a group of Wood Ducks. We were able to get a couple of highly zoomed and cropped images of this bird. We could not see legs too look for bands, so do not know if this is an escapee or a true vagrant. Either way, it was delightful to see this species in the wild. Thanks Pat!
