Observation details
Observed 1 individual perched for several minutes on a mound among cattails near the western end of the route. 1 group of ca 15 encountered along the creek just W of Oregon Ave; they flew as I approached, then circled around and landed on grasses near the pond where I saw a GWTE pair. Other CANG and MALL, encountered near the creek close to the Visitor's Center, seemed very un-skittish and let me approach within a few meters. Some of these CANG were grazing. I hypothesized that these latter birds have been winter residents and have gotten used to people, while the others might have been migrants stopping over. Large groups seen in flight several times as well.
