A view of some of the Tundra Swans on the south side of the island. The line of swans extended left and right of the view in the photo. More Swans were seen on the north side of the island.
Observation details
Earlier, Simon Lane texted 130+ Tundra Swans seen at the Reservoir. After catching my breath, I drove up to the reservoir and counted and recounted 185 Tundra Swans on the south side of the island. 20+ were added from the north side of the island a short time later. This is as accurate as I could get it. The previous known high count for this species in Morris County is, or was...18, in 1990 at Lake Musconetcong. This phenomenal movement of Tundra Swans was echoed elsewhere today in northern New Jersey, namely Hunterdon County, a record movement of Tundra Swans.
