Observation details
The same bird I found yesterday. Very interesting bird with an almost entirely black crown and only a bit of red near the bill. The rest of the bird looked similar to how a young Yellow-bellied would be, except an overall lack or red, with none on the throat or nape. As I am not an expert on Sapsucker plumage variations and hybrids, so I could be wrong on this ID, but it appears to be an abnormally plumaged young Yellow-bellied.
