Observation details
Well, here we go again- it's winter gull season. Medium/large sized white-headed gull in non-breeding plumage. Larger than RBGU and LAGU, slightly smaller than near-by HERGs. Dark iris with purplish orbital ring. Heavier and more extensive streaking on head and neck than I am used to seeing for HERG. The bill on this bird made me look twice- it seemed more slender and lacked the prominent gonydeal angle I expect for HERG. Unfortunately there are no shots of the open wing or legs as the LAGU, RBGU, and HERG were all causing chaos going after discarded fish parts. I lost track of it when a large contingent of LAGU started arguing over a fish head and caused the flock to flush. Photos were taken at Cos Way Bait & Tackle.
