Observation details
Seems to be the most reasonable conclusion. Relatively small-billed, brown wingtips, and neat checkering rule out most others. Herring Gull or some hybrid could probably be ruled out with photos of the spread wings, but sadly that never happened while we were there. While the primaries and the plumage do seem a bit dark for a Thayer's (now Iceland) Gull, it doesn't seem to be outside the limits of this species.
