Observation details
It's always a guessing game with these potential hybrid birds, but this one (swimming with several Westerns) seemed to me to be intermediate in all respects. The bill was yellower and less rimmed with dark than on any of the nearby Westerns, but was not bright orangey-yellow. There was more white around the eye than on the Westerns, and perhaps enough for a pure Clark's, but some of the white area looked a bit suffused with dusky tones. And the flanks were paler than the Westerns but not outrageously pale. Photos.
