Observation details
This was seen at eye level, approximately 20 feet away, feeding on Paspalum sp. Long scope views revealed the scale pattern underneath, the rich brownish red upper, and finch-like bill. This bird was missing its tail feathers (or they were new and very short), and was being harrassed by a Red-winged Blackbird. First spotted on this CCPRC public birdwalk by Jack Rogers (rising 7th grader), and it was photographed by Merle Shepard.
