Observation details
Female. I noticed a hummingbird on our feeder (the first in months) just as we were walking out the door to go birding. It stuck around for a few minutes, so I managed to get some photos of it at the feeder and a few more photos after it flew up to some dead branches on the side of the yard. We left after I felt I got enough photos. A tiny hummingbird, with a short tail and compact build. Pale buff wash across all of underside. Throat speckled with green spots. Bill short and slightly decurved. Pale spot at base of bill, just above the base of the maxilla. Uppersides entirely green. Tail dark with pale corners. I never saw the base of the tail to look for rufous, nor does it show up in the photos. Wings all black, extending beyond the tip of the tail at rest.
