Observation details
*** Mega. Fifth state record. Found by Stan Arnold and Ed Carlson during a Swan Creek survey. The bird was seen approximately from 6-7:30pm, when it unexpectedly and shockingly picked up and flew to the north, crossing the Key Bridge. ID was straightforward, but we were still careful to eliminate Whimbrel by noting the plainer cap pattern, absurdly long decurved bill, overall cinnamon coloring including the underwings, and the two-noted "curlee" call, which it gave frequently. Accepted by MD/DCRC (MD/2011-160).
