Observation details

A medium size grebe, smaller than the Western Grebe nearby. Dark gray, almost black top of the head. Bold white cheek that wrapped around towards the back of the head. Long stout yellow bill. Yellow eye with large black pupil. White down the front of the neck. Dark gray down the back of the neck in a straight line which became broader as it went down. Gray back with white markings. Diving frequently and staying under a long time. We timed one dive at 1:53. Viewed from the road on the south side of the lake.
