Observation details
Continuing. Pink bill, black head, gray back, and white below. It flapped once to stretch and white underwing visible. As sometimes happens, I was about to give up when I decided to walk a bit deeper into the harbor before heading back. I heard it before I saw it. A short, plaintive, quiet whistle. I scanned for the sound and there it was, west side of the channel, lazily swimming deeper into the harbor (north). I believe it had been in among the boats on the west side all the time I searched the east side. So I followed it until kayakers and SUP boarder flushed in under the northwest corner docks. I went back to my car in the southeast corner (looked for a birder I'd spoken to earlier there, but she had left) and drove around to seek out a closer view. Ran into two birders there and told them where I’d seen it. We three met again near a NW area yacht club (guest parking in green spaces) and Deanna, bless her, found us a way in closer. Got right on top of it. Berth 34, dock A, slip A-34. Close up it did not vocalize again. Photos.
