Media notes
Three Sandhill Cranes photographed by Curtis A. Marantz on 11 November 2017 as they flew over Lake Tamarisk, Desert Center, Riverside County, California.
Observation details
Three cranes seen circling low overhead mid-morning appeared as if they wanted to land, yet they never seemed to settle and eventually we saw them flying off to the southeast. I noted on these birds their large size, outstretched necks and legs, a somewhat bulbous appearance to the head and a short, straight bill. Also apparent was that the overall coloration was medium-gray, yet the face appeared to be more whitish, and the three birds each had a dark red cap that extended from the forehead to roughly the rear part of the crown.
