Swallow-tailed gull
Observation details
The gull was on a stone ridge west-southwest of and below the level of the parking lot on top of the Head, view from along a trail south of and above the ridge, weather clear and windy. Based on my nine photos (ca 550 mm lens handheld, the gull was there from at least 1359 through 1448 hours Pacific Daylight time (camera recorded Mountain Daylight times between 2:59 & 3:48). The camera I used does not record GPS coordinates. The gull appeared relatively small, with an all-white tail, reddish eyes, orange-red legs, a dark head cap of brown blending to blackish along the lower edge, beak fairly large and slightly down-curved, black with a white band at the tip and white at the base of the upper bill.
