Media notes
Four type 2 red crossbill flight calls intermixed with pygmy nuthatch calls and tapping by hairy woodpeckers. Type 2 calls appear 0.15, 0.35, 3.55, and 3.75 seconds into the recording. They are all rapidly downward-slurring, about 0.05 seconds in duration, and feature an obvious kink part way down. The third call also has a nearly vertical feature that represents a different type 2 flight call variant. These calls appeared to originate from only one bird. All the crossbills we heard at this location sounded like this. Edits to the file: trimmed and normalized to -3 dB.
Observation details
Brief audio recording. They sounded like flight call type 2s. I will upload a recording soon. Detailed count of a flock that took flight out of the burned Jeffrey pines on the south side of the road. Nine red crossbills should not trip the rare filter, which should be changed.
