Direct comparison of differences in head color between the SUSCs in front and the WWSC in the rear
Observation details
dark contrasting cap with lower portion of face. Two white spots on head , shoehorn bill shape, no white wing patch (see photo of bird spreading wings below. Larger than Buffleheads. Stiff tail up on one bird. In direct comparison these birds were just slightly smaller than White-winged Scoters. One bird seen to the north at same time that three birds seen to the south on the lake.
