Observation details
Initially seen from Unity Park arriving from NNE with a mass arrival of migrant Canada Geese. Alighted on Barton Cove at 11:40 hours. First identified as a 'goose of interest' when flying into the cove head on to my viewing point at Unity Park. Small size, blue-gray forewing and lack of black neck sock jumped out from surrounding Canada Geese. On the water, looked quite pallid with blue-gray upperparts and light brown upper chest merging into darker brown neck and head. Closer range views off Riverview Drive revealed unique pinkish tinge at base of neck and 'shoulder' area, diagnostic pink band within overall dark bill, and diagnostic pink legs seen well and shown partially in photos. Not heard calling. This particular bird showed a longer than average bill and an evenly sloping forehead merging into the culman. The head/bill profile was somewhat reminiscent (to my eyes) of Tundra Bean Goose and shows up well in the photos. This was the third Pink-footed Goose that I've documented with photos in the Gill/Turner's Falls area since 2011.
