NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut #74. Bulk reel #522 a) 6:55 AM. Bird #3 (~ 2 km west of main corral). Natural song. Quality: 1-2. Level: +3. 203 tape. LN. Then after playback. Quality: 1. Level: +3. b) Some time later, no further playback. Quality: 1-2. Level: +3. (Voice comments: possible copulation during interim?) c) 7:25 AM. Song right after more playback. Quality: 1. Level: +3. d) 8:45 AM. No further playback. Bird sings periodically as it moves all over what seems to be its territory (~ 100-150 m. along edge of woods and usually slightly inside it. It was mostly in the middle and understory and was possibly foraging some of the time; but although not singing in real advertising song fashion from the upper story, there may have been some advertising nature to the song--perhaps conscious of possible close competitor due to earlier playback. Quality: 2. Level: +3. e) ~9:35 AM. Weather: Clear. After playback experiment. Quality: 1-2. Level: +3. f) ~10:00 AM. Later song period, no further playback. Quality: 1-. Level: +3. Medium to heavy mottling, rather heavily on chest; it's rather like #2 but perhaps slightly less mottled (on sides and flanks?).
